Google Loves WordPress

A while back Google identified the importance of WordPress given that it currently drives over 34% off all websites on the internet and 60.8% share in the CMS market.  Given that  Google has decided to create a new plugin for WordPress called Site Kit.  Site Kit makes it easy to set up and configure key Google products, giving you authoritative and up-to-date advice on how to succeed on the web.

The new plugin is now available and brings information fro Search console, Google Analytics, Page Speed insights and Adsense to your admin dashboard.  For site owners  Site Kit helps you set up and use easy-to-understand metrics to help you grow your online presence.

Google Search Update – BERT

Google has just announced one of the biggest changes of the last five Years, BERT, a change that is likely to impact 1 in 10 searches and affect your SEO. BERT is a Natural Language Processing (NLP) model that helps Google understand language better in order to serve more relevant results.

BERT uses the context and relations of all the words in a sentence, rather than one-by-one in order. So BERT can figure out the full context of a word by looking at the words that come before and after it. The bi-directional part of it makes BERT unique. So it will be most effective in complex queries such as “2019 brazil traveler to australia need a visa”.

Currently, BERT is being rolled out in the USA for the English language. Google will use the leanings of BERT to improve search in other languages as well. The most important takeaways from this BERT update is that Google is yet again becoming closer to understanding language on a human level. For rankings, it will mean that it will present results that are a better fit to that query and that can only be a good thing.

Good content will be rewarded

Google Chrome

Late last month Google rolled out Chrome 78, the latest version of its world-dominant browser, that included patches for 37 security vulnerabilities, new customisation options for the new tab page, and search integration with Google Drive.

Chrome 78 now puts text boxes at the pointer’s position when the user hangs it over any tab. Dubbed “tab hover cards,” the aides are particularly helpful when the browser’s tab bar is overloaded to the point where there’s no room for distinguishing labels.

Also with the release of Chrome 78 in the coming weeks Google will be rolling out the ability for users to search for Google Drive files that they have access to from the address bar. According to Google “their input will search through both titles and document contents, and the most relevant documents based on their history will appear.”

Tip of the DAY

While we look for immediate results don’t lose sight of the medium term goals.  For most small business is to keep creating valuable content as this will help you rank in Google.
